Saw Wire for the silicon wafer manufacturing
At the moment CPA builds a technologically advanced, innovative and ultramodern Saw Wire plant in Fürstenfeld, near Graz, Austria. The production start is scheduled for the 2nd quarter of 2012. In the first stage of expansion 28 Mio. km high-quality Saw Wire with a diameter range of 0,16 - 0,08 mm will be produced. It is planned to expand the production very quickly over 4 expansion stages to 225 Mio. km and to produce from the second stage onwards also Diamond Saw Wire.
Pioneering technologies paired with yearlong experience
The company CPA Filament GmbH is a subsidiary of the Steinklauber group that is located at Graz since 1925 and which also contains the CPA Wire Technologies GmbH (wire production machinery and -plants) and the CPA Computer Process Automation GmbH (process control systems, Manufacturing Execution Systems and building automation). In the 1970s CPA took on the challenge to develop plants for the manufacturing of high-strength ultra-thin wire for the car tire industry. The first patent for the core technology for the manufacturing of these wires, namely the galvanic plating of wires and bands, was granted in the year 1983. Since 1979 special wire for steelcord and later Saw Wire was produced on old CPA-plants in Fürstenfeld. The excellently educated personnel of the region have a decades-long experience in the production of Saw Wire and are eager to enter new dimensions in the manufacturing of Saw Wire. All companies of the Steinklauber group are ISO 9001 certified.
Targeting the highest quality, productivity and transparency
As Saw Wire is a very delicate product, all production processes are aimed at a careful material treatment, continuous process- and quality data acquisition and the highest possible automation level. CPA's universal process control- and Manufacturing Execution System IMPERIO controls recipe-depending all processes, analyzes and documents all quality data and coordinates the complete production logistics including the automatic floor conveyor systems. CPA customers can access 24/7 via internet all the data of the delivered products.
Less wire breaks, highest surface quality, minimal diameter fluctuation and prevention of transverse tension through a unique plating procedure
Using the plant developed and patented by CPA for the galvanic plating of wires and bands with single cell control (Cpk 2-4) and online bath analysis- and maintenance system allows a homogeneity and ductility of the wire plating, a constant layer thickness and a metal bond to the basis material never reached before. With that the wire breaks and the wear of the drawing dies are reduced by up to 50%. In addition to that the undesired transversal tensions due to irregular deformation forces in the drawing die are prevented.
High tensile strengths by environmentally friendly, modern heat treatment
The patented heat treatment system AEOX developed by CPA needs up to 40% less energy compared to conventional systems and allows highest tensile strengths without using lead or sand. The quenching of the wires is realized by an environmentally sound water/polymer-conglomerate using a film boiling process. The diffusion process is realized contact-less via a recirculation-/convection furnace without impacts on the wire surface.
Secured quality through a new wet drawing process with online quality testing
For reaching the highest possible wire quality CPA developed a wire drawing machine especially adapted for the technological demands of the Saw Wire manufacturing. This drawing machine guarantees through a careful wire treatment for avoiding breaks via an integrated online tensile strength-, diameter- and form keeping test, that each millimeter of the wire produced by CPA conforms to the demanded quality criteria.
